Shanna Geigle, MSN, APRN, FNP-C born in The Dalles, Oregon, and grew up in Portland, Oregon in the community of St. Johns. She then went to Linfield College, McMinnville Oregon for her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. After graduating with her Bachelor's degree in 2005 she started her nursing career at Salem Hospital, Oregon with a focus in Critical Care, and certified in Critical Care Nursing while working in the Intensive Care Unit. During this time she had her first child Emily and her second child Evelyn. After Evelyn was born she decided to move back to Portland to be closer to family. During this time of change she worked for Oregon Health Sciences University on their Cardiac and Surgical Intensive Care Unit. It soon became evident to Shanna that she wanted to do more with her career so she stepped down from bedside nursing and enrolled in a Master's Program at Gonzaga University, WA. During her Master's program Shanna had her third child Isabella, and with a long-term goal of raising her children with her husband Barry Geigle in beautiful Bend, Oregon her family made the move to Bend in 2014. Shanna worked at St. Charles Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit, and finished her Master's degree in 2015. After certifying as Family Nurse Practitioner, she began her Nurse Practitioner career at the Veterans Health Administration serving the veterans of Central Oregon.

Shanna's journey in to alternative medicine started when her daughter, Evelyn was hospitalized for an allergic reaction to antibiotics for an ear infection. Shanna began researching ways of treating ear infections without using traditional western medicine and found that Evelyn no longer needed antibiotics. Shanna has since expanded her knowledge of alternative medicine incorporating it into her medical practice with her patients. Shanna is a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner meaning she treats patients throughout the lifespan from infancy to advanced age.

She spends her free time with her husband, three girls, two dogs and studying herbs, essential oils and nutrition. She loves to hike, camp with the family, go on nature walks, identify plant life in Central Oregon and snow shoeing.

Shanna's practice style is focused on treating the individual person, using a systems-oriented approach to engage both patient and practitioner through a therapeutic partnership. She is passionate about getting to the root cause, shifting her practice away from disease and symptom oriented medicine to a more patient-centered approach. She feels there is a time and a place for everything, and will treat patients with western modalities if need be, while working at getting to the root cause of the presenting issues. This approach of medical practice has many names; integrative medicine, lifestyle medicine, holistic medicine, complementary medicine, alternative medicine and functional medicine.

Shanna is not yet certified in Functional Medicine but aspires to obtain this certification as well as a certification in herbalism in the near future.

Amanda Weiland, MSN, FNP-C obtained her graduate degree from Duke University at one of the top-rated nurse practitioner programs in the country in 2019. Her path to Bend and Roots Family Medicine has given Amanda 15 years of direct patient care experience and valuable insight into the diverse medical system in our country. It has taught her how to recognize the diverse needs of her patients.

She grew up in St. Charles, Illinois before moving to Colorado to study Environmental Science at the University of Colorado - Boulder. After working in a water quality lab out of college, she decided to make the shift into healthcare where she hoped to answer the call to serve her community and help people directly. She became a certified nursing assistant and began working at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. She then moved to Atlanta, Georgia and continued working in the cardiovascular ICU at the renowned Emory University Hospital. While continuing to work as a CNA, she attended Emory University School of Nursing where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She practiced as a critical care nurse and nurse mentor for the next 10 years at Emory University Hospital. Here, she witnessed the devastating effects of chronic illness gone unchecked.

In effort to realize her dream to effect real lasting change to the health and wellbeing of individuals needing personal attention and education, she decided to move from critical care and study family medicine and become a nurse practitioner. To accomplish this, she continued her education at Duke University and obtained her Masters in Nursing.

While raising two young children and a with third on the way, Amanda and her husband moved to Bend in 2018 to realize their dream of living in the Pacific Northwest. It was in Bend and, in part, at Roots Family Medicine, where Amanda completed her clinical NP training.

Amanda sees primary care medicine as an essential and powerful tool to improve the health and overall wellbeing of the individual. Her philosophy is that in order to effect real and positive healthy change in the lives of her patients, she needs to know the whole person and consider how different treatment and management approaches can be integrated into their lives in meaningful and lasting ways. She believes it is important to empower the individual through education and prevention. As a medical provider, she understands it is her duty to remain an accessible and relevant source of information for her patients as they learn about their own health issues and navigate the often frustrating healthcare system. At Roots Family Medicine, Amanda continues to cultivate this practice style in line with her colleagues.

Outside of work, Amanda raises 3 young children with her husband. When home, she enjoys gardening or tending to her back yard chickens. She is outdoors as much as possible with her family and enjoys camping around the PNW. She is an endurance athlete and a 2 time Full 140.6 Iron Man finisher. She plans to complete her 5th marathon in 2021.
